나는 과거의 것에서 시작한다. 어떤 형태가 왜 그 자리에 놓였는지, 어떤 재봉이 왜 그 방식으로 남았는지를 먼저 찾는다. 그리고 그것을 지금의 재료와 기술로 다시 만든다.
일상은 수평선처럼 변하지 않는 얼굴로 지나가지만, 그 아래에서 기술과 유행은 매일 자리를 바꾼다. 나는 그 변화의 맨 앞에 서지 않는다. 한 발자국 뒤에서, 유행이 소비되고 남은 자리를 본다. 거기서야 비로소 그것이 무엇이었는지 보이기 때문이다.
I begin with what came before. I first ask why a form sits where it does, why a seam survived in the way it did. Then I remake it with the materials and techniques of the present.
Everyday life passes with an unchanging face, like a horizon, while beneath it technology and fashion trade places every day. I do not stand at the front of that change. One step behind, I look at what is left after a trend has been consumed — because only from there can I see what it really was.
